Valley Tennis Academy Junior Classes

TTC junior classes

Timberhill has long been proud to host one of the finest junior programs in the Pacific Northwest. Our experienced and caring teaching staff will help your child develop the technical and mental skills to navigate all levels of competition, from learning to keep score and implementing scorekeeping and strategy through tournament play.

All of our junior class programs are components of the club’s highly successful Valley Tennis Academy.  We have groups that cater to all ages and skill levels, and the Core Track of classes are open to non-members of our club. There are opportunities for kids to participate multiple times per week for faster progression.  We offer outside-of-class play components to all of our classes, where kids can demonstrate and practice the skills they are learning. 10 & Under Tennis is used in our beginning groups to facilitate quicker skill development and enjoyment of the game.  Scroll down to find your group, and come join the fun!

Mighty Mites

Mighty Mights

Mighty Mites is our beginner-level program for children ages 5-8 who are just beginning their tennis journey.  Players work on the foundational strokes–forehand, backhand, and simple volleys–using red row-compression balls and shorter courts to keep rallies going and build enthusiasm quickly. Red balls re slower and bouncier, making it much easier for young players to track and make contact, so they spend more time actually hitting and less time chasing.  Each class blends structured skill-building with energetic games that make learning feel like play.  Coaches emphasize proper technique, positive attitude, and basic court awareness in a high-energy, encouraging atmosphere.

Goal Example:  “I want my child to love tennis and make friends on the court.”

Sessions introduce serve technique, basic court positioning, and short-format point play that builds match confidence in a fun, low-pressure setting.  With a mix of drilling, cooperative player, and competitive games, Future Stars is here young players begin to discover their game identity and develop a genuine passion for improvement.

Goal Example:  “I want to rally consistently and play a full point from start to finish.”

Junior Champs

Junior Champs Timberhill Tennis

Junior Champs is our intermediate program for players ages 9-13 who are developing consistency, strategy, and competitive awareness.  This class uses a combination of green-dot and standard yellow balls, depending on the drill and player readiness–green-dot balls are slightly slower and help players develop clean mechanics and longer rallies before fully transitioning to the full-speed game.  Players work on all four major strokes with a focus on depth, direction, and spin, as well as footwork patterns, court positioning, and basic tactical patterns of play. Point play and competitive drills are a regular part of each session, and players are encouraged to explore their firsts tournament experiences when ready.

Goal Example:  “I want to begin playing matches and move up to Tournament Prep.”

Tournament Prep

Tournament Prep is a structured training class for players ages 10-14 who are ready to take their game to the next level and begin exploring competitive play. This is a great entry point for players who are tournament-curious but haven’t yet taken the plunge–coaches introduce match strategy, serve-and-return patterns, and the mental side of competition in a supportive environment that removes the pressure of having to compete right away.  Sessions use standard yellow balls and include live ball drills, match play, and tactical discussions to build the skills and confidence players need to step on to a tournament court feeling prepared.

Goal Example:  “I want to enter tournaments and feel genuinely prepared to compete.”
